Shoulder Injury from Auto Accident

Shoulder Injury

When your shoulder hurts, it can be extremely difficult to complete normal daily activities. Whether you recently injured your shoulder in an accident at work or a car collision, or if you are dealing with chronic pain from months or years of overuse or bad posture, it's possible to get help without resorting to prescription pain pills.

.

At Advanced Chiropractic in Klamath Falls, OR, we’re here to help. If you're currently dealing with shoulder pain, there are some things you need to know.

Why Does Shoulder Pain Occur?

Shoulder pain is usually the result of the muscles in the shoulder being misaligned. If you've recently been in an auto or industrial accident, the causes of this are fairly easy to determine. The forces that your body experienced during the accident were enough to push the muscles out of alignment.

If the shoulder pain comes and goes but there is no direct cause, it is likely that small repetitive movements over a series of time are the cause. If you sit at a desk at work that is not adjusted properly, for example, it can put a small amount of strain on this area of your body. Over time that small strain will grow into a much larger and more painful problem.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help?

Fortunately, chiropractic care is one of the best solutions to this problem. While traditional medicine will prescribe painkillers or muscle relaxants, a chiropractor will be able to move the muscles back to their proper place. This process does not hurt, as the chiropractor will only be making small adjustments.

After the first session, patients typically feel as if the pain has gone away entirely, or that it has decreased some. If the pain has gone away, it's usually because the immediate pressure on the muscles has been alleviated. Over time, however, the muscles will tend to move back to their unhealthy positions, causing pain in the area again.

This is why many treatment plans call for multiple appointments spaced close together at the beginning. Repeatedly moving the muscles back into place will eventually force them to stay in their healthy positions. As they stay in these positions longer, the time it takes for the pain to come back will increase, eventually lasting for several weeks at a time.
